FootageDesk files public records requests for its customers. To do that we need to know who you are and what you want requested. This page explains what we collect, why, who sees it, and what you can do about it.

What we collect

We collect what you give us when you use the site.

  • Account details. Your email address and a password. The password is stored in a scrambled form that we cannot read.
  • Requester details. Your full legal name, phone number and mailing address, and your channel name if you add one.
  • Your commercial use answer. Whether you plan to use the footage commercially.
  • Your authorization. The name you type to sign it, and the date and time you signed.
  • Your cases. What you write when you submit a case: the description, place, date, names you mention and any link you add.
  • Agency correspondence. Replies agencies send about requests filed for you, including fee quotes, tracking numbers and denials.

The site does not take card details. When online payment opens, a payment company will handle them and this page will be updated first.

How we use it

  • To find the right agency and write the request for each case you submit.
  • To file that request in your name and follow up on it.
  • To show you the status of each case and explain what the agency said.
  • To run your account, apply your plan's monthly limit and answer your questions.

We do not sell your information, and we do not use it for advertising.

Who sees it

  • You. Your cases and profile are visible only to you when you are signed in. Other customers cannot see them.
  • The FootageDesk team. The people who prepare and file your requests can see your requester details and your cases, because they need them to do the work.
  • Government agencies. When we file a request for you, the agency receives your name and mailing address, and your phone number where it asks for one. If the agency asks whether the request is for commercial use, we give your answer.
  • The services listed below. They store data for us so the site can run.
  • Authorities, when the law requires it. We may disclose information to comply with a valid legal demand.

Requests can become public records

A request sent to a government agency can itself be a public record. In many states the agency may release your request, including your name and address, to anyone who asks for it. Some agencies also publish requests online. This is decided by the agency and its state's law, not by FootageDesk, and we cannot remove a request from an agency's records once it is filed.

Services that store data for us

  • Supabase holds the database and handles sign-in. It stores your account, profile and cases on servers in the United States.
  • Vercel hosts the website and delivers its pages to your browser.

We will add to this list before we start using another service that handles your information.

Cookies

The site sets cookies only to keep you signed in. It does not use advertising cookies or third-party tracking.

How long we keep it

We keep your account, profile and cases for as long as your account is open, so you have a record of every request. If you ask us to close your account, we delete your profile and your cases from our systems, apart from anything the law requires us to keep. Requests already filed stay in the agency's own records.

Your choices

  • See and correct your details. You can do this at any time on your profile page.
  • Withdraw your authorization. Ask us and we will stop filing new requests in your name.
  • Close your account and delete your data. Ask us and we will do it.

Depending on where you live, the law may give you further rights over your information. We will honor a valid request made under those laws.

Children

FootageDesk is for adults. It is not meant for anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect their information.

Changes to this page

If we change how we handle your information, we will update this page and change the date at the top. For a change that matters, we will also tell you by email or on your dashboard.
